Whether you love it or hate it, you need social media for your business. Google’s rankings are being influenced by how active a business and it’s website are with networks like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google plus, Snapchat, and Instagram.
Facebook alone is huge with over a billion users right now, and Twitter has over 300 million users while Snapchat and Instagram are growing rapidly. This is one of the reasons you can’t afford to ignore them in your online marketing plan. When you can get a large number of followers, there is a potential for you to communicate with and target an even larger number of people.
The other reason is that if you want to rank highly on Google and Bing, you need to be active on these social networks. Google and Bing are now using data from the social networks to help determine where a site ranks in the search results. This could mean they check to see how active you are on social sites and how often your website is “liked” on facebook or “tweeted” on Twitter. Now, it is debateable how much weight Google and Bing assign to these social signals, but most people agree that it is becoming more important as more and more people sign on to these social sites and actually use them to interact with other people.
At the very least, your business needs to have a Facebook business page, a Google My Business page, and a twitter account.
